LED industrial Lighting products test and purpose summery:

IES Test:

This is most common used file used by lighting designer when doing DIALUX simulation. So, everyone is familiar with them. “IES FILES” A standardized data file which expresses the light output of a luminaire as luminous intensity versus angle along with sufficient descriptive and documentary test information it is derived from the acronym for the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). IES files are assigned the file extension “.ies”. Used by lighting designers to model the illumination performance of a lighting scheme using commercial lighting design programs. An IES file is commonly referred to as “photometric data” for a luminaire.

Integrating sphere test:

Integrating spheres are fast and convenient tools for measuring the radiant or luminous flux of light sources. Such spheres are routinely used to characterize light sources such as packaged LED components and finished luminaries of all sizes. SMD or COB led chips used small Integrating spheres equipments test LEDs, Bigger equipment used for finished led luminaries like HID led replacement bulbs, led downlight, led track light small size products, for outdoor led lighting bigger size prefer IES dark room test.

Lifespan test include LEDs and lighting fixtures:
LM80 is for LEDs lifespan test.
TM21 is according to LM80 data to evaluate the lifespan of lighting luminaries.
LM79 is for the whole fixture performance, like lumen output, efficiency, lighting distribution, CCT,CRI...

LM70 is for the whole fixture lifespan test.

ERP test:

On July 6, 2005, the European Parliament and the Council formally announced Directive 2005/32/EC on the formulation of a framework for environmental design requirements for energy-consuming products. ERP certification mainly includes that the luminous flux maintenance rate is greater than or equal to 0.8 for 6000 hours, and the number of switching times before failure is greater than or equal to 15000 (rated life is 30,000 hours) lamps and lanterns 25w PF>0.9.

EMC Test:

EMC (ElectroMagnetic Compatibility) testing exists to ensure that your electronic or electrical device doesn't emit a large amount of electromagnetic interference (known as radiated and conducted emissions) and that your device continues to function as intended in the presence of several electromagnetic phenomena. Very important test for CE, follow the standard of EN 55015:2013+A1, EN 61547:2009, EN 61000-3-2:2014. EN61000-3-3:2013.

LVD Test:

The low voltage directive (LVD) (2014 / 35 / EU) provides a high level of protection for European citizens within certain voltage limits and applies to European and many world markets. LVD follow the standard of EN 60598 and EN 62471 and EN 62031.

Surge protection test:

SPDs are intended to afford protection from electrical surges and spikes, including those caused directly and indirectly by lightning. SPDs are utilized as both complete devices and as components within electrical equipment installed in alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power systems. With combined testing of surge protective devices, good to know the led lighting’s SPD level, 6KV, 10KV, 15KV.

Aging test:

Every led lamps must be take 4-8 hours aging testing before packaging. 100% ensure the lamps working well.

High temperature test:

High temperature test will put led lighting products into 60degree or even higher temperature equipment lasting for 30 days or 60 days to test the endurance.

Low temperature test:

Low temperature test will put led lighting products into -45degree or even lower temperature equipment lasting for 30 days or 60 days to test the endurance.

IPX5/X6/X7 test:

IP Testing (IEC 60529): IEC 60529 is an international standard designed to give products a determined International Protection Marking according to the IP Code rating. This standard tests the sealing effectiveness of enclosures of electrical equipment against the intrusion of solid particles and liquid. Max dust roof number is 6, max watering number is 8.

waterproof test:

Waterproof testing ensures your device meets IP standards. Standards for waterproof testing are ISO 20653 and IEC 60529. Each of these outline proper procedures and ratings for ingress protection testing. Max standard is 8. As many industrial lighting used outdoor, so waterproof test is basically test and necessary test.

Dust-proof test:

Any lighting device will working in dust environment. Dust will effect the lifespan of electronics, especially for led lighting products with fans working. Each of these outline proper procedures and ratings for ingress protection testing. Max standard is 6.

Thermal test:

LED lighting thermal testing is a method of testing led chips, lighting housing and led drivers ability to operate safely at different temperatures. Data gathered by thermal tests allow engineers to understand its safe operating limits, as well as gain more information about the potential lifespan.

Anti-corrosion test:

Corrosion Testing determines the resistance of materials to corrosion under certain environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity and salt water. Especially for led flood light, high mast light and street lighting used in seaport or placed which is high salt.

Vibration test:

Vibration testing mimics the conditions that a product or structure might see during its lifetime while under a test environment. Used to ensure that products are robust and perform safely during operation or transit. For normally led lighting products, vibration testing make sure safety transportation. For a roadway luminaire is a complete lighting assembly consisting of a lamp (or lamps) together with parts that distribute the light, position and protect the lamps, and connect the lamp(s) to the power supply. These roadway luminaries can be exposed to two types of vibration: wind induced, and traffic induced vibration.

Salt spray test:

Salt spray testing is a laboratory simulation of a corrosive saline environment. It is used as an accelerated means of testing the ability of surface coatings to withstand atmospheric corrosion. Especially for led flood luminaries, high mast luminaries and street luminaries used around seaport.

Needle-flame test:

This method is used to test and assess the fire hazard presented by a plastic material using a needle flame. For many lighting luminaries plastic cover request fire-proof ABS material.

Load test:

This test is intended to verify the LED drive supply can deliver the Voltage, Current and Power maximum ratings under various ambient conditions. To do so, the LED load is programmed to maximum Vo and Io settings for the driver.

Drop test:

The drop test or free fall test is for transport simulation and packaging optimization. This test allows us to know how a vertical drop can affect the integrity of the packaging and the goods inside. As such, it provides information for the packaging’s design and make sure safety transportation.

AC/DC Power supply:

The main job of an AC/DC power supply is to transform the alternating current (AC) into a stable direct current (DC) voltage, which can then be used to power different electrical devices.

Suspension test:

The suspension test mainly tests how much pressure the luminaire maintains in a safe state of installation. Many led lightings make suspension installation, like led linear light fixture, magnetic track lighting system. Suspension test help engineers evaluate the safety installation way and pressure.

Draught-proof test:

Wind causes poles and light towers to vibrate excessively, resulting in structural deterioration. Hence, it is important to make wind testing and adhere to the maximum thresholds and tolerances of masts and lighting. Strong air movement can result in unwanted swaying of mounted light heads at the top of the tower, causing inadequate illumination due to light beams missing their targets. Additionally, with the units being prone to degradation, maintenance and repair must be conducted more frequently (both time consuming and costly for businesses).

Power meter:

It measures the voltage (V) and current (A) and derives from these the most important power results. That’s basically test to evaluate the energy saving.
